Evaluating Sediment Production by Activities Related to Forest Uses - A Pacific Northwest Perspective
نویسندگان
چکیده
To deal with nonpoint sources of pollution, such as stream sediment produced by erosion from forest management operations, regulations require land managers to reduce onsite erosion to keep the amount of sediment discharged from each project area within acceptable limits. Activities developed to meet these regulations are sometimes referred to as best management practices (BMPs). BMPs are designed to reduce pollutant discharge from a single project but may not solve the larger problem concerning the cumulative effect of multiple projects. Land managers and regulatory agencies are increasingly required to address the cumulative effect of each proposed project within the context of all other projects within a specified area. To evaluate cumulative effects, using appropriate spatial and temporal scales is critical to analyze and evaluate physical and biological responses to interacting events or treatments that are separated in either time, space, or both.

Estimating sediment yield from a paved forest road (Asphalt) (Case study: Watershed Leyle, Ravansar)
Extended abstract 1- Introduction Forest roads are among the largest sediment transport sources to drainage network. So, estimating the sediments of the road network is an important factor in the evaluation of the impact of the road construction. One of the biggest problems caused by the road construction in the forest is the increase in various forms of erosion, such as Gully erosion and mas...
متن کاملEstimation of Stormwise Sediment Yield of Gully Erosion Using Important Rainfall Components in Different Land Uses of Zagros Forest, Iran
Erosion is one of the important social-economic problems in Iraniancatchments that have been posed by surface water vastness and runoff production. So, thestudy of water resources, soil erosion and effective factors is of high importance. Gullyerosion also extends in many parts of Iran and its study particularly in viewpoint ofsediment yield is therefore very important and should be taken into ...
متن کاملInvestigation of forest road surface sediment estimation using two experimental models of SEDMODL and WARSEM
Extended abstract 1- Introduction A bare surface on forest roads is created due to road construction. This surface is the main source of erosion and sediment yield to streams in forest areas. The increase of sediment in streams causes dramatic damage to the quality of water ecosystems and the life of aquatic organisms. Therefore, road engineers should pay attention not only to the cost of roa...
متن کاملEvaluating the Impact of Road Longitudinal Slope Angle in Forest Roads (Main Access and Main Roads) on Runoff and Soil Loss. (Case Study: Gardeshi District, Mazandaran)
Extended abstract 1- Introduction Forest is a sustainable ecosystem with a high balance, and is characterized by non-eroded soils and sediment-free water. Forest roads serve as the largest construction activities and a component added to the forests which are required for the accessibility to forests and forest resources, logging, transportation, conservation, tourism, etc. However, these...

Extended abstract Introduction The present study was performed to investigate the effects of slope percentage and land use type on the produced sediment by an artificial rainfall simulator in Kakasharaf watershed, a branch of Karkhe watershed (Lorestan province). Methodology The rainfall simulator used in this research was designed and constructed by the Soil Conservation and...
